Lightsage raises $4M to build the growth stack for software’s newest customer

A San Francisco startup has raised $4M to help software get chosen by AI agents. Lightsage calls the category Agent-Led Growth, the company said. Nexus Venture Partners led the round. Angel backers include former Salesforce chief technology officer Steven Tamm, Postman chief executive Abhinav Asthana, Apollo chief executive Matt Curl and DocuSign president Robert Chatwani.

The premise starts from a real change. Coding agents pick libraries, install SDKs and call APIs without anyone visiting a website, increasingly through model context protocol servers. Lightsage runs simulations across answer engines and coding agents. It hands them real tasks and records where they fail.

Chief executive Jun Liang Lee says the test is whether an agent can reach a successful outcome. The break might be discoverability, documentation, authentication, an API endpoint or an incompatible server. Teams fix it and rerun the task, then measure whether agent success improves. It supports Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode.

Named customers include Firecrawl, Reducto, Daytona, Rime and Tinyfish, all of them developer software companies. The third verb in the pitch is the difficult one. Agents that discover and use software are also meant to pay for it, and in Europe that stays subject to PSD2. There is no agent-specific carve-out.

Strong customer authentication still applies, and the open questions are who is providing the payment service, who controls the funds and what counts as valid authorisation once the act is delegated. None of that is theoretical. Robinhood already lets AI agents trade stocks and spend on a card. European payments law was written for a person approving a transaction with two factors, tied to a specific payee and amount.

It was not written for software approving one on a person’s behalf. Others are building into that gap. Meow launched an agentic banking platform aimed at AI agents. Lightsage is hiring across technical and commercial roles, and says developer tools are only the starting point.

Two of its named customers have founders who also appear on its investor list. The round is small against the ambition. Neo raised $100M for a control layer over agentic software. Contributed article.
