Credit: Biolevate The Paris-based company Biolevate, which develops AI automation for use in regulated life sciences, has raised €30m in its Series A funding and has opened an office in Boston. Orange Ventures and RAISE France co-led the fundraising exercise, with the company stating that RAISE France is the investment arm of Aymar Hénin, a French entrepreneur. The MSD Global Health Innovation Fund, Station F, and the existing investor EQT Ventures were also involved.
EQT led the Biolevate €6m seed round in November 2024, when the startup was focused on medical writing. The company was founded by former Dataiku engineers and AI researchers and initially aimed to speed up the process of obtaining regulatory approval. Its agentic platform converts scientific and regulatory knowledge into auditable workflows, with each output linked to the evidence supporting it and still requiring a person to sign off. The platform covers the entire process from early research and drug discovery through to clinical trials, regulatory submissions and health technology assessments.
Biolevate claims that it can run 100,000 agents at a time, conducts literature reviews and evidence synthesis 16 times faster, and makes regulatory intelligence 80% more efficient. More than 12 enterprise customers are currently using it in production, and the company states that its annual recurring revenue has increased 20-fold over the last year, though it does not disclose the original amount, listing Sanofi, the regulators, NVIDIA, and Microsoft as its partners. The number of people rose to 50 during that time, and Biolevate intends to double it next year. The company has also prepared seven patent applications in various therapeutic areas, two of which have already been submitted to Europe.
The establishment of the Boston office gives the company a foothold at the heart of the US pharmaceutical industry as it expands overseas. Under the terms of the agreement, Hénin is appointed chairman of the board, and Jérôme Berger, head of group strategy and venture capital at Orange, is also given a seat on the board. “We started Biolevate with a mission-driven team united by the belief that AI could improve millions of lives if we empowered the right people and solved the right technological challenges,” said Joël Belafa, Biolevate’s co-founder and chief executive.
