Follow Legit.ng on Instagram!Taiwanese applicants must hold a passport without a personal identification number to qualify.For travellers heading to the United States via Canada, eligibility requires a valid US visa, a confirmed onward ticket to the US departing Canada within 24 hours of arrival, and travel through a participating airline. Travellers must remain within the international transit area throughout their stopover and may not leave the airport. If a flight is cancelled or delayed beyond the 24-hour window, the exemption no longer applies and the traveller must report to a Canada Border Services Agency officer.For travellers connecting through Canada from the United States to an international destination, additional conditions apply.
The passenger must have entered the US on a valid visa, not overstayed their permitted period, and must not be subject to a removal or deportation order. In this scenario, eligible airports are limited to Toronto Pearson International Airport Terminal 1, Vancouver International Airport, Calgary International Airport, and Winnipeg International Airport. Travellers flying through Toronto’s Terminal 3 or those who need to switch terminals are not eligible.What Happens at the Canadian AirportAt the airport, all eligible transit passengers must stay within a sterile transit area, which physically separates them and their baggage from other passengers. Anyone who needs to leave this area for any reason must report to a Canada Border Services Agency officer for examination.Passengers travelling towards the US will proceed from their arrival gate to a US connection area, where they and their baggage undergo a security re-screening before being processed by US Customs and Border Protection.
Those connecting from the US to an international destination will instead scan their passports at a primary inspection kiosk and wait in the international departures lounge until departure.The IRCC also noted that missing a connecting flight or being refused entry to the United States immediately disqualifies a traveller from the visa exemption, requiring them to seek examination by a border officer before continuing their journey.Canada speaks about approved employersMeanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Canada’s Atlantic Immigration Programme opened a pathway for skilled foreign workers and international graduates to secure permanent residency through designated employers.The programme covers four Atlantic provinces where approved employers are actively seeking qualified international candidates, including applicants from Nigeria.
