For persons originating from those states, no entry visa and no residence authorisation was needed in order to cross the border or to commence work in the technology sector.A different regime applied to applicants who did not originate from the listed regions. In their case, an entry permit or a residence title was required before relocation and before starting professional activity in Germany could be permitted. The authorities noted that several pathways existed for specialists in information technology to obtain the necessary permission. What Was Required For Other Foreign NationalsThe distinction was made to help prospective candidates understand whether they needed to initiate a visa procedure prior to departure.

Those who benefited from freedom of movement were able to travel and accept an offer without prior administrative approval from German missions abroad. Others were expected to secure the appropriate document that allowed both residence and employment. The announcement further indicated that while a visa or residence permit was mandatory for third-country nationals, the system provided multiple options tailored to the needs of qualified IT personnel. Those options were designed to facilitate entry for skilled professionals whose expertise was sought after in the German market.Overall, the message conveyed that nationality served as the decisive factor in determining whether a visa was required for work as an IT specialist in Germany, and that citizens of the European Union, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland remained exempted from such requirements, whereas all other nationals had to obtain authorisation, albeit with several routes available to them.White lady from Germany shares business experience Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a Mira Wörgötter, an AI business coach, relocated from Germany to Lagos six months ago to build a business and work with Nigerian entrepreneurs. She shared five observations about doing business in Nigeria, touching on trust, humour, appearance, and the country’s youthful energy.
