Googlebook laptop lineup Credit: Google Pre-orders for the Googlebook opened on Monday, starting at $899, with the first ones reaching shops in the United States on 4 October. In Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia will arrive on 5 October. Google has not said what they will cost in any of those markets, and the only price published is in dollars. There are five models, one from each manufacturer.
Acer’s is the only convertible. ASUS’s weighs 2.2 pounds. Lenovo has a 15-inch screen and is aimed at people who keep many windows open, while Dell and HP fill the gap in between. The specifications are the same across all of them: 16GB of memory, rising to 32GB on some configurations, OLED touchscreens up to 2.8K, cases in aluminum, magnesium alloy or carbon fiber, backlit keyboards, glass haptic trackpads, and up to six speakers.
Buyers choose between Intel’s Core Ultra Series 3 and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite, each with a neural processing unit rated above 45 TOPS. Googlebook OS sits on the Android stack, with desktop underpinnings from ChromeOS, and includes the full Chrome browser with extensions alongside Android apps adapted for large-screen and mouse input. Photoshop, Lightroom, and CapCut run natively, and Netflix and HBO Max support offline downloads. Every unit comes with 12 months of Google AI Pro, which includes 5TB of storage and the Gemini Advanced tools, plus 3 months each of YouTube Premium and Adobe Photoshop, and 1 year of GeForce NOW.
The part aimed at developers is more interesting than the bundle. The security architecture is ChromeOS’s, with Google’s Titan hardware root of trust and on-device malware detection. Also, each laptop ships with a Level 5 security-certified pKVM hypervisor, which Google says is a first in laptops, running a walled-off Linux environment with full terminal access. The examples it gives of what to run in there are Claude Code and its own Antigravity CLI, which is a striking pair of names for a Google launch page.
The Glowbar is back, lighting up at boot and sweeping to show charge, and this time developers can program their own animations for it. Google has published no European prices, no storage options, and no breakdown of what any individual model costs beyond the entry figure.
