Work is due to start improving access and habitats for wildlife at a nature park in Coventry. Longford Nature Park is a small reserve which the city council has designated as being of high importance to the city. The improvements will include a new boardwalk across muddy parts of the park, litter-picking and the creation of shallow wetland habitats. The work is being funded through Section 106 money, paid by developers to councils for major development projects in the area.

Councillor Patricia Hetherton said the improvements would help protect the biodiversity already at the park and make it easier for people to get closer to nature. “Green spaces like Longford Park play an important role in supporting our health and wellbeing,” she added. Longford Park, as well as being a nature reserve, also acts as a public path, connecting the Coventry Building Society Arena and the Coventry Canal. The project will be delivered by the council’s urban ranger team, working with volunteers from the Friends of Longfofd Park.
